A tip from the bookies that everyone should know about…
Speaking to a client the other day,who said to me that she had had a her own private epiphany. She realised that everytime she wanted to try something – apply for the job that was a bit of a stretch, talk to a company she wanted to work for – she had this voice telling her ‘ Who was she to think she could do it?’
This she realised SUCKED. For the first time, it really really struck her. She said to me ‘I’ve realised I have to back myself up‘. So she’s made her own private commitment to herself that every time she hears that ‘can’t’ voice, she’s going to do the opposite and back herself all the way.
Now there’s a novelty. When was the last time you ENCOURAGED YOURSELF to do something, rather than rubbished yourself or your idea? For most of us I think the latter is the default. We don’t even realise we’re doing it. Imagine if every time you announced you wanted to do something, your mates or family said, ‘nah, that will never work’. That’s what we’re doing to ourselves! I realised I do an awful lot of this too.
So, this week I’m going to actively experiment. Instead of saying, ‘I can’t do that’, or ‘that won’t work’, I’m going to back myself all the way. Want to try it too? How about we all try it this week and bet on our own horse?
